Just finished watching what will henceforth be known as “The Gay Debate” on Logo featuring Obama, Edwards, Kucinich, Gravel, Richardson, and Clinton. Some initial reactions:
1. Richardson thought he was going to speak at “The Grey Debates” or something. Seriously, the man had no idea of his audience. For one thing, his defence of saying maricon on Imus was basically, “I’m sorry for my buddy-buddy straight guy banter on the morning show,” but his attitude was “I’m a buddy-buddy straight guy.” And while I can agree that some people do have the choice of whether to love those of the opposite sex or those of the same sex, I have never had that choice and Melissa Etheridge didn’t look like she had ever had the choice, and they gave him every chance to take that shit back and he just kept right on chugging down the asshole line.
2. Who was that moderator and where did they find her and why did they pay her. Seriously, my cat could have moderated that debate more effectively.
3. Melissa Etheridge was the Paula Abdul of the panel. She did get some good questions in, but I got the feeling she wanted to tell everyone how nice they looked.
4. John Edwards got his mind blown by some homeless gay kids. Holy shit! People kick their kids out for being gay? Where the fuck has he been?
