This is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen at Goodwill. The back cover of a journal, decorated with words clipped from magazines. The cover is a Nijinsky drawing called “The Dancing God” and cries “Just Dance!”

Inside, the journal is blank except for the title page, which proclaims that there is “A Whole Lot of Shaking Going On.”

I guess there is a hopeful side to all this. If the maker is really a dancer, perhaps the urge to keep an actual diary was short-lived because they just didn’t feel drawn to writing. Once the orgiastic fit of decoupage was done, the journal was set to one side and left, abandoned when the designer flew to New York to Make It.

But I keep seeing a young man, 22, cleaning out his room in his parent’s house. He glances at this notebook for a minute, opens it to confirm that he never actually wrote anything down, then tosses into a box with a few other books, a shirt, maybe a pair of unused athletic shoes.  He got a job at a restaurant downtown, and he makes enough to live on his own, and sometimes, on the weekend, he goes out dancing.

I had my first shift volunteering at Habitat for Humanity today. In future, I will be sure to take my camera to this, because there is some cool, old stuff coming through those doors. Today, I cleaned, wait for it, wait for it…

 A vintage 60's era vibrator. That heats up. 

I shit you not. I wish I had a picture. I saw the box languishing in the bottom of the bin and scooped it up before Mr. Wires (my kind and knowledgable trainer) could get dibs. The words "Personal Massager" really only mean one thing to me, and it has nothing to do with aching backs. This specimen had a circular metal disc, about 3.5 inches across, on one end of a plastic handle. The control was a dial offering vibe, hi heat, lo heat, and the delightful sounding combo of H&V. 

Although I know it is kinda gross that I'm talking about a used vibrator here, I'm still incredibly excited by the idea of a vibrator with a heating element. Right up until it's too hot. How come none of the offerings at The Ineffable Woman have that?
